Back when I had to re-adjust the floats on my carbs, the challenge was getting them accurately set to the correct height. I tried measuring with assorted rulers, depth gauge and calipers but nothing gave me a consistent reading. So I made a cardboard template that fit over the floats and sat on the carb body. This made the job very easy. I emailed Frank Fisher who had previously machined a blanking plate to cover the fuel pump hole in the engine block and asked if he could machine a simple template for setting float height on Zenith Stromberg (ZS) carbs. The picture below shows what we came up with. A double sided template (15mm and 17mm) made out of 1/16" rigid aluminum that lets you set the minimum and maximum float height. In looking through the Haynes Carb Manual, it appears that this should work on all ZS CDSE and CD-2SE carbs.
